In an effort to enhance the existing road infrastructure and alleviate traffic congestion, a major construction project is set to begin on the Motorway M3 in Mauritius. This initiative involves the construction of a new flyover at the intersection of Motorway M3 and the Verdun Bypass.

As a consequence of this undertaking, temporary closures of the Motorway M3 Southbound direction have been scheduled during specific night time hours.

Closure schedule:

The Motorway M3 Southbound direction will be temporarily inaccessible to motorists from 20:00 to 06:00 on the following dates:

  • Monday, 04 September 2023
  • Tuesday, 05 September 2023
  • Monday, 11 September 2023
  • Tuesday, 12 September 2023

To mitigate inconvenience to commuters during the closures, a single-lane traffic arrangement will be enforced on Motorway M3 Southbound before the Saint Pierre Flyover. This measure is implemented to ensure the safety of road users and construction personnel.

For those travelling from the North to the South, vehicles will be directed from Motorway M3 onto the Verdun Bypass at the point of connection between Motorway M3 and the Verdun Bypass. Subsequently, access to the South will be facilitated through Verdun Bypass, leading to Dagotiere Roundabout, and then allowing vehicles to rejoin Motorway M3 towards the South at the connection point of Motorway M3 with the Verdun Bypass.

Traffic management

To provide clear guidance and ensure the safety of all road users, appropriate traffic signage will be strategically placed along the affected routes. Furthermore, law enforcement personnel will be actively present to assist and support road users during the temporary closures. Their presence is crucial to maintaining order and safety on the roads.

During the construction work, it is imperative for motorists to exercise caution when approaching the construction zone. Reduced speed limits will be in effect to enhance safety, and drivers are strongly advised to adhere to these limits diligently. This ensures the safety of both road users and the dedicated construction workers on-site.
