While personalised car number plates (registration marks) was already a reality in Mauritius, you now have even more options to customise them! Your so well cherished car can have a distinct attitude in its own right. Since the 1st of October, the National Land Transport Authority (NLTA) is proposing extended options to vehicle owners, so that they can have their full name or those of their dear ones as a unique number plate.

Several combinations of letters and numbers can be availed at prices ranging from Rs 50,000/ to Rs 200,000/ while the reservation rate is at a uniform cost of Rs 5,000/. Reservations made against the production of the National Identity Card for individuals and Business Registration Number for companies are strictly on a first-come-first-serve basis.

You can opt for a personalised plate of three letters and four numbers, four letters and four numbers, five letters and four numbers, six letters and three numbers or only your name or forename to a maximum of nine letters.

While there is no restriction in the choice of personal names, the NLTA reserves the right to reject any application for a personalised registration mark that is regarded to be likely offensive, obscene, indecent, abusive, threatening, misleading or humiliating in nature. 

Names or acronyms of political parties, religious groups or names with religious or political connotations as well as such words that may create social unrest will also be rejected.

7 letters followed by any number between numbers 1 and 99: Rs 75,000/ 

6 letters followed by any number between numbers 1 and 999: Rs 100,000/ 

5 letters followed by any number between numbers 1 and 9999: Rs 125,000/ 

4 letters followed by any number between numbers 1 and 9999: Rs 150,000/

3 letters followed by any number between numbers 1 and 9999: Rs175,000/

A grouping of alphabets up to 9 letters: Rs 200,000/
