If there is one thing that grinds the gears of any car owner when it comes to maintenance, it surely is how cloudy or foggy the headlights become after some time. The deterioration of these components can have an ominous impact on your visibility at night or in poor weather conditions…

This is why it is essential to take good care of your headlights. Here are some tricks to try cleaning them at home.

  • Toothpaste

One of the easiest, and shockingly efficient ways to clean your foggy headlights at home is by using toothpaste. With the help of a piece of cloth, all you have to do is apply a generous amount on the headlights and rub it in with small circular motions. Thanks to its mild abrasive properties, the toothpaste shall give a bright new shine to your headlights.

  • Baking soda and vinegar

Baking soda and vinegar have both been extensively used for cleaning purposes for years. The first step is to clean the surface of your headlights with some dish soap beforehand. After that, get rid of the fogginess by mixing some baking soda and vinegar in a small dish and then applying it in circular and side-to-side motions until your headlight is clean.

  • Bug spray

Another atypical lifehack would be using bug spray to clean them. While you should avoid using too much of it and ensure you do not spray directly on the headlight lens—in case it damages the plastic—, applying bug spray to the headlights then scrub it away will help brighten them up. Indeed, the strong components present in the insect repellent melts the surface and removes oxidation.
