A down to road reality for a better motorcycle fuel efficiency!

What is it that always goes up and never down? Correct! It’s the price of fuel! So, this is good reason enough why getting optimal mileage from the motorcycle tank will help save significantly on those swelling fuel bills. Here are some tips and tricks that can make ride-more-for-less a reality.

The first key to a better motorcycle fuel efficiency is regular servicing and proper maintenance. For instance, inadequate lubrication causes mechanical resistance which exerts undue strains on the engine. The result is a direct toll on fuel consumption. Timely maintenance allows smooth oil combustion – a requisite for fuel efficiency.

Tyres can tire the engine

Tyres are the second most important components of a motorbike. Besides allowing the vehicle to move, they have a direct impact on fuel consumption. Underinflated tyres cause unnecessary drag and undue pressure on the engine, thereby burning off more fuel.  Overinflated tyres have smaller contact area and therefore creates more drag. This too calls for more fuel consumption.

For better fuel efficiency, it is recommended that the prescribed tyre pressure be always respected. As a rule, each visit at the filling station should include tyre pressure checks to stop those tyres from tiring the engine!

Yes, speed thrills. More so when it comes to bikers. But the higher the revolution per minute the thirstier the engine grows. This is a case where fun comes with a hefty price tag.

Refraining from aggressive driving and opting for steady speed will, besides saving on fuel, ensure bikers’ safety on the accident-prone roads of the island.

Shed those extra kilos!

It goes without saying that the heavier the weight, the more the engine will be overworked. The greater the pressure on the engine, the higher will the fuel consumption rise.  Wherever possible, replacing heavy steel parts by lighter aluminium ones will reduce the overall weight of the bike with the bonus of keeping the fuel bill far lighter.

As strange as it may seem, a full-face helmet does contribute to higher fuel efficiency as it is more aerodynamic compared to a half-face one.

It is good to remember that efficient fuel consumption management is not just a personal pursuit. It also helps reduce the use of fossil fuel – a noble contribution from bikers towards greater sustainability of the planet.
