The long-awaited summer is here. It is the harbinger of festivity and the joy of leisure driving.
However, the prolonged heat associated with this season can often bring in its wake untold issues. Here are a few simple tips that will always ensure a hassle-free, cool and enjoyable summer drive.

It is quite unpleasant to get into a car that has been parked for a long period in the blazing sun.  If no shaded parking slot is available, it is advisable to use a sunshade on your windscreen. It will help filter the direct heat and thus mitigate the discomfort. You may also roll down the windows for a few minutes when you start driving until the interior temperature is at par with the exterior one. 

Protracted direct heat is bound to scorch the steering wheel and eventually harm your hand. A simple trick to avoid this horrid situation is to rotate your steering wheel 180 degrees before leaving your vehicle. The part you touch will invariably be the least exposed one.

Tires can be severely impacted by the sweltering heat if not properly inflated. Under-inflated tires put the tire component under increased duress while over-inflation may cause bursting. Get your air pressure checked each time you go for your petrol fill.

It goes without saying that the summer heat exerts a lot of strain on your car’s air conditioning system. It is therefore important that it is always well maintained and properly serviced.

On the engine front, the risk of over-heating is a common occurrence. Therefore, the coolant system calls for closer attention. A regular check of hoses and reservoirs as well as the essential fluids will avoid any undesirable situations, especially during a long drive on the motorway.

Finally, engine belts tend to loosen and make noises with overexposure to heat. An occasional check is highly recommended.
